Description:
Propylene Glycol
(±)-1,2-Propanediol is an aliphatic alcohol that is frequently used as an excipient in many pharmaceutical formulations to increase drug solubility and stability.
Propylene glycol is usually a slightly sweet, odorless, colorless and transparent thick liquid. Chemically, propylene glycol is a kind of dihydric alcohol and is miscible with various solvents such as water, acetone and chloroform. Propylene glycol can be manufactured by the hydration of propylene oxide and is mainly used to form polymers, but is also used as a food additive and has an E code of E1520.
Application:
1.Propylene glycol can be used as raw material for unsaturated polyester resin , epoxy resin, plasticizers, surfactants and PU resin, mainly used for paint, coating and plastic industries.
In cosmetics, can be used as a wetting agent and emollient, because of good viscosity and hygroscopicity.
In daily chemical is an important solvent.
It used as an antifreeze, also an important material for Tobacco Humectant.
2.Propylene glycol is used as an organic solvent and diluent in pharmaceuticals and many other industrial applications.
Product advantage:
Propylene glycol is known to exert high levels of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) during degradation in surface waters. This process can adversely affect aquatic life by consuming oxygen needed by aquatic organisms for survival. Large quantities of dissolved oxygen (DO) in the water column are consumed when microbial populations decompose propylene glycol.
